August Newsletter 2025

Dear Small Discoveries Families,

It’s hard to believe we’ve already made it to August!

We’ve had an incredible summer so far filled with learning, laughter, and exploration and we’re soaking up every last bit of sunshine this final month. Here’s what’s coming up as we wrap up our summer session and begin preparing for the 2025 2026 school year.

Important Dates This Month:

  • NJ Grow Observation August 14th: Our final NJ Grow observation will take place on Wednesday, August 14th. We’re proud of all the growth and progress our team and children have made this year!
  • Bubble Show August 15th: We’re bringing the fun with a Bubble Show on Thursday, August 15th! This exciting, interactive event is a highlight of our summer and a favorite among the children!
  • Summer Break – August 25th to September 3rd: Please note that Small Discoveries will be closed from Monday, August 25th through Tuesday, September 3rd. We’ll be using this time to deep clean classrooms, paint the school, do touch ups and reset learning spaces, and get everything ready for the new school year.
  • First Day of School September 4th: We can’t wait to welcome everyone back for the start of the new school year on Wednesday, September 4th! Be on the lookout for a welcome packet with classroom assignments and details for the fall.

Back-to-School Prep Tips! Transitioning from summer to school can be tough for little ones (and grown-ups too!).

Here are a few simple ways to help your child ease into the new routine:

  • Create a Routine Now: Start introducing consistent bedtimes and wake-up times this month to help your child adjust.
  • Read Books About School: Stories like “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn or “Llama Llama Misses Mama” by Anna Dewdney can help children express and understand feelings about school.
  • Talk Positively About School: Share stories about your own school experiences, visit the school grounds together, and talk about what they might do during their day.
  • Practice Independence: Encourage children to practice putting on their own shoes, opening lunch containers, or using the bathroom with minimal help.
